At OneIn a Place Called Maine

by Lynn Plourde Illustrated by Leslie Mansmann Islandport Press, 2007

I live in a place
where I awaken sparked, so sparked
as the first light ignites.

I am at one
with the radiant dawn,
a pink-orange fire
that flickers and flashes
flaring up a new day.

This book is a love poem to author Lynn Plourde's home state of Maine, where it is so easy to feel "at one" with nature. From the first sunrise in the United States to the top of mile-high Mt. Katahdin to a moonlit cross-country ski adventure, nature is celebrated day after day in every way.

"Margin to margin enchanted. The words and the pictures take the reader to the wilds and the waters, wanders in them with love, and is one of the most entrancing combinations of simple and complex to come along in quite a while."
The Courier-Gazette

"At One, In a Place called Maine is an almost hypnotic story about the great state of Maine . . . Lyrical and lovely."
